I started looking into why America’s fisheries are being so grossly mismanaged about three years ago. What I found shattered my blissful ignorance and view of capitalism. I found that most politicians, eco-charities and government bureaucracies are being manipulated or paid for by a handful of multi-national corporations. These corporate conspirators want to control all of our natural resources and our access to them. They want us to be workers producing their products and consumers who will enslave ourselves with debt. They don’t want independent business owners or self-reliant citizens who do not need government, corporations, or activist shills to “help” them.
We must realize there is a very big difference between free-market capitalist principals and the corporate crony capitalism that plagues our society today. Powerful special interests play both sides of the political isle against one another as they consolidate their control over us. They understand most Republicans will blindly support corporate interests and most Democrats will blindly support environmental agendas. They know most politicians will do whatever it takes to secure big campaign donations. Corporate executives along with their political minions and eco-cohorts can make the masses believe what they are doing is good for them as well as our economy and environment.
Two solutions that could stop the crony capitalist power grab are to vote with our money and voice. The only thing that trumps money in politics is enough people peacefully supporting or opposing an issue. The bigger the issue the more people it takes. We could turn this country around in a few weeks if everyone who invests in the stock market sold their shares in corporations that are not friends of freedom and bought stock in honorable businesses. We could also turn around local economies just as quickly if we stopped shopping at corporate chains full of imports and started shopping exclusively at locally owned businesses for products made as close to home as possible. Will you do your part or nothing at all as evil triumphs?
About the Author: Chris McCaffity is a commercial fisherman from North Carolina. He created the website, FreeFish7, to explain how our fisheries are being mismanaged and to present positive solutions as well as simple ways people can help. Chris believes we should all have a common goal of healthy fisheries that can be responsibly harvested forever with very little waste.
Chris quickly found out his voice meant very little to most members of Congress, so he asked the environmental charities to help him stop the waste and abuse of our resources. Most of them refused to work with Chris on anything. Many of the charities appeared to have other agendas the waste helped to advance. Some wanted catch shares. Some wanted area closures. Some just wanted to end commercial fishing.
Since most of the environmentalists, politicians, and fishery managers would not help, Chris decided to organize his fellow citizens to help defend our freedom to fish and eat American seafood. The only thing that trumps money in politics is enough people supporting or opposing an issue. He asked people to support his public comments with emails and phone calls. Chris created a 10,000+ postcard campaign, addressed to various public servants who are relevant to different fishery issues. The campaign has had positive results. Visit FreeFish7 and read about his successes & support the American Fishing Industry.
